Dynamics and Seismic Performance of Asymmetric Rocking Bridges

چکیده

The governing equations of motion for bridges with rocking piers unequal height and span lengths are derived accounting the effect end joint gaps abutment-backfill system. attenuation stems from impacts at interfaces, described through coefficient restitution, also (pounding) superstructure on abutment backwalls. This is first study to author’s knowledge that combines both energy-dissipation sources in analytical derivation motion. results response-history analysis different levels asymmetry their pier show performance symmetric asymmetric configurations very similar regard longitudinal displacements. Although studied safely resisted ground motions an intensity about twice design earthquake, regardless degree asymmetry, it was found higher difference height, larger rotation due differential uplift piers, a point must be addressed seismic response.
